Day 50 – Uzbekistan to unknown Turkmenistan

Before we set-off for another border crossing today, a quite exciting one into the North Korea of Central Asia, we said goodbye to our fellow-travelers and good friends Chris and Matthias who are also a personification of Brand New China. They are driving on their Chinese Shineray motorbikes from Shanghai to Europe. Their stories are inspiring and funny and a big ‘jia you’ (Chinese ‘go for it’) for these two adventurers. Follow their stories here.

Crossing from Uzbekistan into Turkmenistan went actually quite smooth considering our previous border crossing. Well arranged, strict but friendly, it took us only four hours to cross the border and in the upcoming two days we will pass through this closed-off, hence fascinating, country.

Our car got 'parked in' by 20 (mostly) German camper-vans. Thankfully an Uzbek rally driver helped us out and managed to maneuver us out of this remarkable situation...

Uzbekistan proved to be quite tricky fuel-wise... thankfully we came well prepared!
