Today, the Mogao caves are on our list! These caves display, simply said, one of the greatest repositories of Buddhism art in the world. Some of the art and statues are over 2000 years old! The site is located near Dunhuang, in the middle of the desert. An ‘Indiana Jones’ movie-set alike! The caves are impressive for sure although you need to get used to the domestic tourism protocols.
In the afternoon we decided to explore the waterfront park in Dunhuang and set up office at the rooftop of one of the hotels in town. Not too shabby a location we would say!

Queuing, umbrella’s and ticket checks are very much part of the domestic tourism experience.

Hide for the sun!
